Woot woot! Second time on this great podcast. Thanks again, I played it for my girlfriend, but alas, I got an eye roll (I am still working on her to watch more DW, hopefully I will not be broken up with). I plan to write my 3rd part of my trilogy of feedback soon, you know, to complete my arc.

One minor quibble was when Erik (who is great on the show) mentioned that there was no set up for Midshipman to indicate he went “both ways.” Actually there was no indication he went one way or the other in voyage of the damned. He could be gay, he could be straight, or he could be bi. All he did in Voyage of the Damned was scream and try to keep the ship from crashing. No sexual history there. I think one should not assume that any person is of any orientation until they indicate it. At least now we know he is gay, and bi is still a possibility, but to criticise RTD for not setting him up to “going both ways” is a little old fashioned in your perspective. I don’t think that would need to be “set up” unless we all assume that characters are straight until proven otherwise, and we shouldn’t do that, should we?

BTW I saw the Torchwood/Being Human panel at comic-con. The actor who plays Midshipman Frame was one of the best parts (other then John and RTD of course). Very funny and having a blast. And they both kept it a big secret that their characters had hooked up. Hilarious in retrospect.

    • Todd, you’re totally right to call me on that. Here I am, the proud gay American, falling into the heteronormative trap. Midshipman Frame’s sexuality is not addressed at all while on the Titanic, and it was wrong of me to assume anything. All I will say in my own defense is that the bar scene seems to imply that the Doctor had some knowledge of Alonso’s sexuality that we’re not privy to–or maybe he’s just aware of Jack’s many charms and their effects on beings of all ages, genders, and species. Thanks for keeping me honest!

  2. Hey, Bridgers. Glad you liked my rap, and thanks for featuring it. It was after hearing the episode on Trock that I first felt inspired to try my hand, so it’s awesome to hear it featured on the show (and for the second time!)

Great episode as per usual, and I can’t wait to hear your post-con thoughts. I’ll be vicariously enjoying Gally through twitter and various ‘casts. *sigh* Maybe next year.

  3. Good stuff! Loved the 5 docs rap! 🙂

  4. Julian says:

Hm, it’s been a while since I’ve commented on any of these episodes now. Perhaps I’m less deserving of my ‘friend of the show’ mention I got some while back (although no one I know seemed to see any importance in that title. Yes, it is a title now). Anyway, this was another nice show, and kept me entertained through my long hours of drawing. Any chance of having daily, 4-5 hour long episodes to help me through the rest of m’comic?
